Fish tank maintenance is the first step in goldfish care and is an important part of owning a tank of healthy fish. If maintained regularly, aquarium and goldfish care is relatively easy and takes little time.

If you prefer you can hire an aquarium maintenance service to come to your home or office and care for your fish tank and its occupants. On the other hand, taking care of your aquarium fish yourself can be a satisfying and rewarding experience.

The Steps In Goldfish Care

The most important piece of equipment in your fish tank is the filtration system. There are several different types of filtration system. A type of filter that you will frequently encounter is a box that fits over the side of the tank. The water circulates through the filtration system, which usually uses charcoal or a similar filter media to filter out the impurities in the water. Another type of filtration system is a biological filter. Biological filtration can be used in conjunction with a charcoal filtration system, and permits good bacteria to grow in the tank which helps to keep the tank clean.

The number of fish you have in your aquarium can impact on the water quality, especially if you have too many fish in a tank that is too small. It is important to ensure that you have the correct goldfish population for the size of tank you own. Do not overcrowd your fish. After overcrowding, the next most likely cause of problems with your goldfish is overfeeding. Fish should only be fed an amount they can eat within a few minutes. If you feed your goldfish too much, the uneaten food will fall to the bottom of the tank and turn into sludge which will not provide a healthy environment for your fish to live in. Uneaten food can also lead to algal growth.

Partial Water Changes

You will need to perform partial water changes every two weeks or so as a central part of your goldfish care. This keeps the algae level down and helps to maintain a healthy environment for your goldfish. Typically, siphoning off about 20 percent of the water is adequate. Replace with fresh water. If your tap water contains chlorine it is imperative that you add a chlorine neutralizer when adding fresh water to your fish tank.

Observe Your Fish Daily

Observe your goldfish on a daily basis. Ensure that all your equipment is running properly. Always make sure your filter is running as it can sometimes lose its prime if there is a power outage. Make sure your air pump is working properly, too, to ensure your goldfish have plenty of oxygen. Goldfish don’t need a heater but if you have tropical fish they will require a heater to maintain the water temperature.

Just keeping an eye on your fish on a daily basis and observing their behavior can help with your goldfish care and tank maintenance. If you notice any behavioral problems with your fish, take a proactive approach to determine what is wrong with them and treat the symptoms immediately. Sick fish should be put into a quarantine tank if possible while being treated.

Maintaining a clean aquarium and a healthy living environment are not difficult tasks in goldfish care, and a little preventive fish tank maintenance on a regular basis will keep your fish healthy and disease free.

Tank has been up for 3 months, I did use some sand and rock out of 2–55 gallon tanks I had going in my house. One of the 55 gallons was up and running for about 5 years and the other was up for only 3 months befor I came accross this large tank and combined them in to this one. I then asked all of the shops in the area to give my number out to people wanting to take their tanks down. Over a few months obtained 400 lbs of rock to add to the 300 I already had and I was able to obtain from one person about a 1000 dollars worth of pre owned fish. My cost was 00 total for the used rock and fish plus 00 for the tank, stand, 2 emporer 400′s, 2 fluval 404′s, 4 power heads, 2 heaters, 2–250 watt sub compact saltwater light units, 1–250 watt T5 HO saltwater light unit, an Oceanic sump and some other odds and ends ALL USED. My cost so far 00. I am sure that it was a little more for salt, filter media, clamps and such but I did not keep track of that stuff. To get the sump and a 55 gallon refugium tank going I needed some custom over flow box’s that Lifereef is making for me. Those are a bit pricey at 0 for 4x600gallon box’s for a planned total of 2400 gallons of flow. I also will have to buy a pump yet. Total cost will be around 00 over 3 months. Future plan’s are upgrade one of the subcompact light units to a T5 HO unit and move the one of the sub compact units down to the refugium, then I am going to build a canopy to contain all the light that spills out over …

Proper aquarium maintenance is very crucial in goldfish care. Goldfish are relatively easy to care for and if you maintain your fish tank properly you will see that keeping goldfish health is quite an easy task.

If you feel like you can always hire an aquarium maintenance service which may come to your office or home and take care of your fish. However, it is an always great to take care of your beloved fish yourself. It will give you a lot of satisfaction and pleasure and can be a rewarding experience.

Important steps in goldfish care

Very important equipment in your fish tank is its filtration system. You can choose from a wide range of filtration system available in the. However, the most common one resembles a box which fits over one side of the aquarium. The tank water will circulates through this filtration system and it generally uses charcoal. Again, another variety of filtration system can be biological filter. This type of filter can be used in along with a charcoal filtration as well. One advantage of this filter is that it allows good bacteria to grow inside the tank.

The number of fish you have inside your aquarium is also of extreme importance. This is because it can influence the quality of water. If you have too many fish in a relatively smaller tank the water will tend to deteriorate very fast. So always maintain correct fish population inside the tank. Next you must be careful not to over-feed your goldfish. You must feed that much only which your fish can eat up within a few minutes. Because uneaten food can rot and give birth to bacteria.

Change water partially water

It is always essential to change your tank water partially in every week. In fact it is central to your goldfish’s care. Changing a portion of fish tank water every week will help you to keep the level of alga down and also to maintain a proper environment inside the tank. Moreover, you can siphon around 20 percent of the water in every few days. If your tap water has chlorine in it you must add a chlorine neutralizer before pouring it into the tank.

Observe the behavior of your fish daily

It is always handy to observe the behavior of your goldfish regularly. By doing this you can ensure that everything is fine inside the tank. Always check your filter and see if kit is running properly or not. If you have experience a power cut make sure that the air pump is running well.

Furthermore, if you see any behavioral change in your fish you must know that there should be a cause behind it. You must take a proactive step to determine the cause of this change or else it may hamper your fish in the future.

This is the third video of my NEW 125 gallon aquarium. i used Potatoe stone, and Pea Gravel combined to make it a little more realistic looking. i used drift wood, and plants. I started off with 3 dozen Large goldfish, 30 guppies, 6 black line rasporas, 3 Crawfish and 5 other miscelaneous fish. they all survived the initial introduction to the tank, except goldfish, only about 13 remain lol.. I have 7 turtles, all best friends lol as dumb as that sounds, but it’s true. I have a fluval 405 external canister filter, that filters up to 100 Gallons, and i have a fluval U4 to Filter Out 65 Gallons, although i only need 25 gallons of extra filtration, the more the better.

Seasonal Koi care is important in order to provide proper breeding of your Koi fish. They also need varieties of care according to their climatic environment. There are four seasons where special care should be provided to them in order to thrive better namely spring, summer, fall and winter.

Spring is perhaps the worse season for Koi fish. Water temperature is an important factor to consider. Another is to know how to keep bacteria and parasites away to prey on your fish. It is notable that under water temperature of 40 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit Koi’s immune system is at it slowest.

Proper Koi care will involve supplying oxygen adequately to reduce distressing the fish. Pond heating system is a good source in providing that ideal water temperature and keeping you abreast of the current temperature of the water.When Koi are in distress they may not swim well which is a good indication that your fish needs extra Koi care.

When they begin to constantly surface on the water they might be hungry and you can feed them ideally with wheat germ-rich fish food for better digestion. Summer is their favorite season of the year where they get an extra boost of energy and immunity.

Being the growing season among Kois they often feed 3 to 5 times a day. Ensure that your filter works well to eliminate their wastes otherwise ammonia build up will increase. Keep an eye on your dissolved oxygen level.

Warm water is unable to hold oxygen well and the fish needs oxygen to live. Proper Koi care should involve providing adequate aeration in the water and this can be addressed by simply using an air pump or large waterfall.

Keep your Koi warm and comfortable from the summer heat by providing shades to avoid getting hit by direct sunlight.Fall is a time of year where their immune system also drops. It is critical period when the water temperature is below 60 degrees.

It is best to provide Koi care indoor to keep them warm and feed them with foods that are low in protein and high in wheat germ. Do not feed the fish under the temperature below 50 degrees as they will be unable to digest the foods better and subject them to distress. Keep your pond clean from any debris that will harbor bacterial growth.

Winter is the season where Koi usually hibernate. Being the coldest season of the year it slows

down the fish’ digestive system so do not feed the fish under water temperature of 50 degrees. This will leave the food on the fish’ stomach undigested and will rot.

Keep adequate oxygen in the pond while keeping more open space for the carbon dioxide to be

released from the water.You can use an airstone or aquarium power head for better maintenance of its environment.

Maintain the water temperature above 34 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent ice crystals to form that can kill them. Avoid putting salts in the water as it reduces the water’s freezing point. Your Koi can leave more comfortable if you provide them proper seasonal Koi care that they need.

If there is one kind of fish which needs much attention and care in growing them up, it will be Arowana. They have a life expectancy of 20 plus years and taking care of these kinds of fish need much patience and understanding. It also requires much work and dedication. How to care for arowana?

As we all know there are a lot of arowana species and caring for them can vary. But generally they all have the same needs. One of the first things you need is the tank. You must be able to create a tank which is spacious, wide and deep. If you will ask if you need to put gravel at the bottom, choose plants or grass instead to avoid affecting the water quality, you can add decorations as long as your arowana can swim freely there is no problem at all.

As mentioned earlier, the quality of water matters much. The water temperature should be kept at 27 celsius. If you are to change your water, do it slowly and little by little. See to it that you do not change it drastically for you might just be surprised the next morning, your arowana has died. Choose your filters well; see to it that they suit the needs of your arowana.

In terms of food and feeding, arowanas are known carnivores so you can basically feed them insects, worms, small fishes, goldfish and shrimps. Feed them in small amounts and at least twice a day. When it comes to sickness, it is usually the water which determines it. Just add a little salt to your water and it can do wonders.

How to care for arowana can be a little tricky but once you get the feel of it, everything will just come easy. Just take not e of the tips mentioned and in no time your care for arowana will pay off.

Fish kept in an aquarium are definitely the easiest pets you can keep. The first thing to do is to learn the basic steps in caring for an aquarium. There are things that should be done daily to care for fish and some things that need only be done weekly or bi-weekly. Fortunately, daily care consists of very simple things to do.

Just spend a few minutes watching them and you can detect any signs of unhappiness if any. Yes, fishes do suffer from stress so keeping a fish happy is the secret to keeping it healthy. The lights and filters are important to maintain the perfect equilibrium of the aquarium so do check them regularly to make sure they perform in peak working conditions. Do not forget to give your fish their food everyday. Give them, enough food that will last for the duration of two to three minutes feeding time. Excess food that is not consumed will sink to the bottom and become debris, adding to the nitrate levels and rising the toxicity of the water. You should check the water ph and temp weekly. If there are changes required, do them promptly. You can know about what conditions will be suitable for your fish from the pet store where you purchase the fish from. Every variety of fish can thrive in particular conditions.

You have to spend time to clean the filter too. Filters collect waste excreted by the fish and left in the tank in the form of excessive fool. If you do not clean these filters, they will get clogged and not be able to perform their task of filtration. In addition to eliminating waste, a filter sometimes acts as an aeration device cycling oxygen through the tank. In case your filters get congested, the movement of gases in them will also slow down. This can reduce the total volume of oxygen in the aquarium. Without rectifying this problem as soon as possible, your fish are surely moving towards an untimely death. Change the filter on the aquarium every two to three weeks depending on need. As soon as your water begins looking dirty and has an offensive odor, you must clean your filter. Some filters need to be replaced, while other simply need to be cleaned with water.

Go slow when you are changing water in your aquarium. Do not let the lights and other fixtures remain when you are cleaning your aquarium. You must replace roughly a third of the water in the tank with fresh water every week or two. Water can be added from the tank provided you treat it for temperature, keeping it near two degrees of the water in the aquarium. The retailer at the pet store will guide you on the proper kind of water to be used. Sometimes, the tap water treatment is done in about an hour, while for others you will need to keep the water overnight.

You can remove the algal growths from the walls of your fish tank by using a scrubber. Be very particular you are not disturbing the fish when you are cleaning the tank. You will have to move about the rocks in your tank too because this loosens the residue collected under them and make them come to the surface from where you can remove them. A siphon or a small bucket may be used to remove this debris which you can do when you are replacing the water. Remove all dead leaves from the water plants. In order to clean the outer portion of the aquarium, simply use a squeegee soaked in water. Do not miss out on cleaning the lid and the cover of the tank. Lastly, plug the aquarium back in, and enjoy the freshly cleaned tank.
