How can I find fish tank accessories?

Almost all the fish stores offer aquarium setups accessories. You will find almost everything that you need in these stores. You must ensure that the package contains all that you need in setting up your fish tank. Aquarium accessories package differs at every store and some are a little bit more profitable than the others. The normal fish tank accessories packages include outdated technology, noisy and inefficient pumps, cheap and ineffective heaters, etc.

A superb method to get a great deal can be a garage sale.  But you also need to be cautious. Prior to buying the fish tank, do examine it carefully for any cracks or scratches. It is true that you can fix cracks but it also involves a lot of hassle.  Moreover, never ever buy a scratched tank because algae will definitely grow in the scratches

Before you set up the fish tank, you must check it for any leaks. See carefully after filling it with water. For that you need to leave the filled aquarium for a week or so.

For the purpose of cleaning the fish tank, you must NEVER use any detergents. Instead use only water. But if you desire to sterilize your fish tank, filter and other accessories, you must wash all of those in a mild bleach solution. Wash everything in clean water and then let those soak a little in a special solution which has a little de-chlorinator.

Equipment: The Essential Things

A lot of aquarium accessories and gadgets are easily available at various pet stores. While some of these are essential, some others are not that important and only needed on special proposes.  Again some are of no use except for decoration purposes.

The following list will provide you an idea regarding the items that you will need for the fish tank.

Tanks

Tanks are available in various shapes and sizes. However you can classify them into two main types: acrylic and glass. But a glass tank is always of more help and also looks great. Regarding the size of the tank, it entirely depends on you. However, you can consider the following points while deciding:

There is a general belief that larger tanks require more maintenance work. But this may not be the case always. Moreover, sometimes it’s simpler to maintain the perfect water conditions in large tanks.

It is a natural tendency among people to want to add more fish into their fish tank. So a bigger tank can easily hold more fish.

But you must make a note of one thing that, the capacity of a tank to hold the number of fish safely depends on the tank’s shape along with its size. The surface area of the tank is more crucial than its volume in determining the number of fish a tank can hold.

It is always good if you can start with 20g or even a bigger fish tank then a 10g tank. A 20g is the best fish tank size that you will find! It will provide your goldfish with enough space to play and swim and to remain healthy.

Community Fish Tank: Fresh Water Aquarium This is the Catspit Productions fresh water community aquarium or fish tank. It is about 8 months after the first aquarium video was posted. Since then I have had to remove all live plants due to fish eating them. They just wouldn’t let them grow. I also had a bout with ick and lost several fish over time. That was ok because I wanted to add better fish. So this is the new and improved aquarium. This tank is a 20 gallon, high with 2 Aquaclear outboard or hanging filters. One filter is a #70 or 300 gallons per hour filtration and it is set up like a normal filter with carbon, ammo carb, and filter medium. The second filter is a #50 or a 150 gallon per hour filtration. This smaller unit is set up with activated charcoal only. This is like a booster for clarity and toxins. It works very well and I can go over the maximum number of fish allowed for this volume tank. About 20 to 25 fish up to 1.5 inches each. This tank is about 1 and 1/2 years old and has been moved once. All of the plants are live but rather new. With a plecostomus and catfish, the tank is literally self cleaning. The filters are cleaned and changed once every month and that is all. Very easy maintenance. The light is a standard fluorescent tube that is left on for daylight simulation and turned off for night mode. The light is set on a timer. A few of the fish are over 2 years old and have been with the tank since the beginning. Royalty Free Music Credits: “Long Note

Find the Right Fish Tank Accessory for Your Aquarium

Find the Right Fish Tank Accessory for Your Aquarium

When it comes to finding fish tank accessories there is just about everything you can imagine. Deciding what to put into your fish tank to make it look natural or just fun to look at can take a little bit of planning. You also must remember that there are several items that every fish tank needs.

There are three mandatory things that just about ever fish tank needs and these include a filter, a heater and lights. The filter is important because it is the thing that keeps the water in the tank clean and clear. Without a fish tank filter your fish will suffer from disease and even death and the water will turn cloudy and start to smell.

A heater is necessary because in most cases people put tropical fish in their new aquarium. Tropical fish live in warm water and will not live long in water that has big temperature fluctuations. A heater will keep the water temperature constant which tropical fish like best. Remember to get the right size heater for the size of tank you have. The only exception to the heater rule is a gold fish tank. Gold fish can survive in un-heated water.

Lights are important for a couple of reasons. There are fish that need the extra light to help them thrive and survive. This is especially true in salt water tanks that have corals and anemones. Lights also add to the beauty of the tank, bringing out the colors of the fish and other accessories you may have.

Once you have those three things taken care of how you choose to accessorize your fish tank is up to you. This is a personal decorating choice because for the most part any fish tank accessory you add is there to decorate the tank; they do have a few benefits to the fish.

If you have a community tank with different sized fish it makes sense to provide accessories that provide hiding areas for the smaller fish. With the right selection you can set up your fish tank much like your fishes natural habitat. This will give them the opportunity to interact with their environment just as they would in the wild.

If you are setting up a Cichlid tank then you need to be aware that many Cichlids do not take kindly to to much decoration. They will push rocks around, dig holes in the gravel, and tear up plants that you may put in their tank. If you insist on putting accessories in a Cichlid tank just be forewarned that it may be redecorated the next day.

Finding the right fish tank accessory or accessories is all up to you and what you want your aquarium to look like. Keep in mind that a more natural look will enhance the fish you have and their ability to live like they would in their natural habitat.
