Everyone wants to make their room look beautiful. For that you can place one tropical fish tank in your room. It will be the focal point and all your guests will appreciate your taste. Many people feel that the setup of the fish tank is tough but that is not true. In the following article we are going to discuss a few simple steps to maintain a tropical fish tank in your room. This is an interesting thing and you surely will enjoy doing it.
When you are planning to buy an aquarium you must check the lighting in it. You can opt for smaller or bigger tank according to the size of the room. If the aquarium is bigger then it will be easy for you to maintain. However the equipments are a bit costly in case of bigger aquarium. To maintain an aquarium properly you need an aquarium of 12 inch width and height both. This is an ideal size that will fit into a smaller and bigger room both. Here you will get the space to keep multiple types of fishes. You need to buy aquarium with good quality filter to maintain is properly. You need sand, thermometer and heater so that you can maintain the temperature of the water. You also need to main the lights and temperature properly. For a 12 inch aquarium 150 watts are perfect. Light depends on the size of your aquarium and you need to be careful about it. If there is more or lesser light that required then the fishes will suffer badly. You definitely do not want that. You need to keep the light on for 8-9 hours a day. If you keep it on for more than that the water will get warmer and uncomfortable for the fishes.
It is very important to clean the aquarium frequently. However you need to be careful while washing it. Detergent cannot be used as it can harm the fishes and can even kill them. You need to use warm water and sponge. Other than that any thing can harm the fishes. You need to take care of them first. There needs to be a plug socket near the aquarium. You also need to place it far from any heat sources. Then you need to place the sand carefully at the bottom. After that the aquarium heater needs to be placed inside carefully. After that you need to pour water in it and then it is time on switch on the heater. This is important to keep that water temperature perfect for the fishes. Neon tetras, tiger barbs are fishes that you can easily keep. You can also keep gruppies. They look beautiful and lively inside the aquarium. You need not add more than 2-3 fishes at a time. If you put too many fishes at once then it can cause a trauma for them. It is important to keep the fishes happy. It will feel lovely to see these colorful creatures swimming freely inside the aquarium. Your room will get a lovely focal point for sure.

Orchestrating the perfect cichlid aquarium set up is not as difficult as it may seem. There are just a few essential facts you should know before attempting it. The following article will provide any potential cichlid owner the essential information needed for a successful cichlid aquarium setup.
Tank size
It is vital that your cichlid have plenty of space for many reasons. The breed itself enjoys having enough room to swim freely. In addition, an abundance of space is necessary to prevent aggressiveness in the fish. An optimal tank size for a cichlid aquarium set up can range from 20 gallons on up, depending on the specific breed of cichlid you wish to house and how many. A cichlid should never be placed in a tank with less than a 20 gallon water capacity.
In addition, your cichlid aquarium set up should include a water filter and pump to accommodate your tank size. It should also include a lid, as cichlid fish are known to jump.
Tank Decorations
Before purchasing tank decorations for you cichlid aquarium set up, educate yourself about their natural habitat. You should purchase all decorations with the fish’s natural habitat in mind. While it may not be possible to replicate it exactly, you should come as close as you can in order to get the most from your new pet.
In addition to the essentials mentioned above, any cichlid aquarium set up needs to include a heat source of some kind. An electronic or digital heat source would be best because it can regulate the aquarium temperature and keep it constant.
The Most Important Consideration
I know it can be a little overwhelming with everything you need to learn before you can run a successful cichlid aquarium. When setting up the aquarium you might find it useful to keep the cichlid’s native habitat in mind and model your aquarium on that. That will do three things for you. You will appreciate your cichlid more and it will be happier and more healthy. You will also have a far better understanding of your aquarium because your research each part of it to recreate a natural habitat.
If you take this hobby seriously, one of the most fun aspects of it, besides watching the pretty fish, is cichlid aquarium setup. You will get a lot more enjoyment out of your aquarium and your fish if you do it yourself.

There are people especially hobbyists possess more than one aquarium at home or at the office because of unexplainable happiness you can feel when you make one. Though it looks difficult to assemble but following all the necessary steps can make things easier and simpler for you. These are some suggestions to help you make a creative freshwater aquarium set up:
Be Responsible
If you dream of having an aquarium at home it entails a number of responsibilities to deal with. It can be tedious and challenging at first because of some routines to follow but you will get used to it once a good habit has been established. Be ready with what you are going to do daily such as feeding the fish, cleaning fish tank at regular intervals, checking any signs of sickness, giving medicines to weak fish to avoid contaminating others are some of the routine roles you have to undergone. So be ready to take actions after all this your aquarium, if you can’t handle these things better not to start making an aquarium at all.
Get some Information
Do some research before buying anything and get some basic information on freshwater aquarium. Listen to people who are doing it for the longest time, ask hobbyists of their experiences while taking care a freshwater aquarium. Learn from their challenges so that you will not commit the same mistakes as they did. Absorb every detail that you can get from and be able to apply it to your own aquarium set up.
Build your aquarium first
Make your aquarium first before buying any fish to put on it. Get all the necessary equipments ready such as filters and water tank. Water ph level must be treated at once to maintain the desired water chemistry set up.
Right Choice of Fish
There is a wide variety of freshwater aquarium fish to choose from but proper considerations must be made before picking one variety to put unto your aquarium. Choose a fish that matches your set up and carefully study all of those affecting your water tank. Is your fish tank large enough to accommodate a number of fish? While you may want to put more variety of fish and yet your tank is not big enough to accommodate all of them it is suggested that you prepare the tank first then you can start putting a good quantity of fish that can be readily accommodated by the fish tank or else they can easily die of suffocation. Is the pH level good enough for the fish to survive? Always check the acidity of the water before putting any kind of fish for them to live longer and healthier. Always do the routine check yourself if you want to add or buy more fish for your aquarium.
Always do the Maintenance Work
After you have understood all the necessary things to do how to make a freshwater aquarium the most challenging part would be is to maintain how the aquarium will last longer. Aquarium maintenance can be tiring because you have to set aside time and effort to do the cleaning of fish tank and treating the water level. This job entails self discipline and self direction or else your efforts will be wasted. If you are not going to maintain it consistently the tendencies are higher rate of fish death thus you lose your passion, time and resources. In order to keep your freshwater aquarium alive a good attitude of diligence is needed to keep you focused on your goals of maintaining a healthy freshwater aquarium though careful and consistent fish tank maintenance.

Cichlid Aquarium Setup- Setting the Stage for Your Pet’s New Home

Cichlids are known to bring color to a room by its mere appearance. Its behavior also paves way for a very entertaining spectacle. These two reasons are just some of the reasons why more and more people have started to collect and breed cichlids. If you are a first-timer at this, you have to understand some basic cichlid necessities, such as the cichlid aquarium setup.
As we all know, the cichlids in an aquarium need several things in order to enjoy its habitat. Making all of these possible would entail basic knowledge and understanding on your part. In turn, it would lead to an immeasurable degree of health and wellness for your cichlid. Here are some things to consider while you are setting up the new home of your cichlids:
In choosing a tank, you should be very meticulous. This means that you should select a good brand. Aside from this, the dimensions of the tank should also be wide enough for your cichlids to swim around in. Ideally, the tank should have a large volume. Meanwhile, a large surface area for the tank is also required to make your fishes comfortable and healthy.
What sort of decorations to include. It is common knowledge that cichlids or any fish, for that matter, need to live in an aquarium that is similar to its original habitat. This emphasizes the importance of putting plants, gravel and other decors inside the aquarium. Cichlids would also appreciate this because it would give them more ways to divide the aquarium in different territories.
Get your hands on a good filter. Filters are important in an aquarium setup because these materials keep the aquarium safe from pollutants. If you want your cichlids to be healthy, you should prioritize sanitation for their habitat. The best way to do that is through the use of a reliable filter.
Set the water temperature at a desirable level for cichlids. This is essential because keeping cichlids mean that they should receive ample heat. Get equipment that can enable you to heat at least a watt of heating per one liter of water. Once this is secured, you can already be able to respond well to the needs of your cichlid in terms of its habitat.
Cichlids are truly beautiful types of fishes. Do not waste their worth by not taking care of them. The least you can do is to feed them well and to put up an ideal aquarium setup for them.

While Cichlid breeding can be accomplished easily for some Cichlid species, it can be quite difficult with others, requiring special conditions and care. Cichlid breeding is much easier and produces far greater results when the Cichlids are well taken care of and given conditions similar to their natural habitat.

While visiting your friend you couldn’t avoid noticing a beautiful fish tank standing in the living room. You want to have one too? In this freshwater setup article I would like to help you to setup your own freshwater tank, starting with the necessary fish supplies. Equipment list: 1- Aquarium- bigger tanks will be easier to maintain then smaller tanks. In small tanks any water parameters change or drop in temperature will lead to disaster while large tank is more tolerating. 2- Aquarium gravel. 3- filter- internal, hang-on or external filter it all depends on your fish stock, fish type and tank size. 4- Filter media. 5- Fish net. 6- Fish food. 7- Heater. 8- Other decorations such as rocks, fake plants, woods etc….9- Aquarium test kits- ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate….10- Aquarium vacuum- very important stage while changing water. 11- 4-5 gallon bucket- use to change water. 12- Water conditioner to remove chlorine and chloramine.
First thing before entering the hobby is the need to understand that fish are animals just like a cat or a dog and responsibility comes along, responsibility expressed by the need to perform water changes once a week, feeding the fish on daily basis and spending money on them (food, media, and medicine). Before you purchase an aquarium you should do your homework and make your self a list of fish that you desire; if you will know what kind of fish you want it will be easy to match a tank. Some fish (small ones) need tiny tank while others can grow to 10-12 inches or even more and will need big tank.
After deciding what size tank you will need it is time to think where to place it, you should place it away from windows because you don’t want temperatures and light affect your tank. Sunlight that enters the room can cause to algae problems and affect the temperatures it will be smart to avoid it. It is also recommended to place your tank on a massive stand that will be able to hold the tank weight, to know your total tank weight you just need to multiply gallon tank 10 times, For example 100 gallon tank will weight 1000 pounds (including water), and 20 gallons tank will weight approximately 200 pounds. Wash out your tank with water only, using chemicals or soap can poison your tank, same thing with your gravel. Be sure to wash it with water only in order to remove dirt, do the same with other decoration such as rocks and fake plants. Now it is time to place your gravel in the tank, after everything stands where it’s suppose to stand it is the right time to fill your tank with water. Place a plate on the gravel while adding water in order to avoid messing the gravel, direct the water flow onto the plate carefully. While adding water add your water conditioner, after the tank gets near to the top water level you can place your plants and other decorations. Now it is time to hook up your filter and other equipment, check your tank lights and install your heater without plugging it in till the thermostat has adjusted to the water temperature, this process takes approximately 20 minutes and then you can plug it in.
The last step before adding fish is maybe the most frustrating step-waiting till the water is “ready”, in order to success and to setup the tank as it suppose to be you must wait until your tank has cycled before adding any fish, check your tank water with test kits in order to know when the process is done. The big moment has arrived, the smart move is to add fish slowly in order to let filtration system to built up, only add one or two strong fish from your fish list, Then wait a week and add 2 more fish, Do the same process all the time to avoid filtration crush. When you bring the first tropical fish home let the bag float in the tank for 15- 20 minutes so that the fish can become acclimated to the temperature of the aquarium water. After 15 minutes you should add some of your aquarium water to the bag to acclimate them to your PH and temperature water, you can use a cup to do so. Repeat this process after 5 minutes, now it is time to take the fish out from the Bag with your fish net do it carefully to avoid any stress to the fish, sometimes stress can lead to disease, there is no need to feed them on their first day in the tank. Now it is time to lay down and enjoy your fish tank, but never forget, if you want your tank to look good as it looks right now you need to perform water change at least once a week, Along with that you also need to test your water once a week.

Aquarium fish tanks can be very exclusive and diverse depending upon the style and taste of the owner. How to go ahead with choosing the right aquarium fish tank is a bewildering question for most of the beginners. The fundamental aquarium is referred to as the ‘all-glass’ aquarium. It is in essence pieces of glass united together with sealant to appear like a container.

Saltwater aquarium known as well as marine aquarium, this type of tank is more expensive andmore demanding then a freshwater aquarium but with a little help and with the right guide you can setup your own saltwater tank, I believe that if you have the suitable equipment itwill help you to avoid future problems. Equipment list: 1- Aquarium- as much as the tank is bigger it will by easy tomaintain it, in small tanks any water parameters changes or drop in temperature will lead to disaster wile large tanks are more tolerating, in this type of tank (saltwater) as the tank go bigger the expenses are more significant. 2- Aquarium gravel- substrate such as crashed corals is ideal for saltwater tank. 3- rocks- high quality rocks are essential, as the hobby develop we can see more and more fish keepers using live rock. 4- Saltwater mix. 5- Hydrometer or refractometer- in order to check and monitoring your salinity you should use hydrometer or refractometer, refractometer is very accurate wile the hydrometer use to fake, to my opinion purchase refractometer will be the smart move, you don’t want your tank to crush because your hydrometer fakes. 6- Heater. 7- Protein skimmer-don’t cheap on this equipment, the protein skimmer is one of the most important and essential equipment in saltwater aquarium. 8- Powerheads and wave box. 9- Sump- to my opinion working with a sump is the right thing to do in saltwater aquarium,it is easy to maintain, media capacity are huge and you can store the hearer,Powerheads and other equipment in it. 10- Replacement media such as filter floss, crushed rocks and activated carbon. 11- Aquarium vacuum, fish net, aquarium scraper, 2-3 five gallon clean buckets, aquarium thermometer. 12- Saltwater fish food. 13- Saltwater test kits- in order to test and to monitor your water parameters you will need test kits such as Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Phosphate, Alkalinity 14- Quarantine Tank. 15- Reverse Osmosis.
First thing before entering the hobby is the need to understand that fish are animals just like a cat or a dog and responsibility comes along, responsibility expressed by the need to perform water changes, feeding the fish on daily basis, monitor water condition end even to spend some money on them (fish food, media, medicine), in saltwater aquarium expenses are something you cant ignore, recommended to know this before you start your aquarium setup. Before you purchase an aquarium you should do your homework and make your self list of fish that you want, if you will know what kind of fish you want it will be easy to match a tank, sump and equipment. Purchasing equipment should be done slowly with a lot of homework, make sure to buy appropriate equipment at the beginning instead of purchasing something you will regret on later and then you will be need to replace it.
After deciding what equipment you will need and after you decide what size tank you will need it is time to think where to place it, you should place it away from windows because you don’t want temperatures and light affect your tank, sunlight that enters the room can cause to algae problems and affect the temperatures, it will be smart to avoid it. It is also recommended to place your tank on a massive stand that will be able to hold the tank weight, to know your total tank weight you just need to multiply gallon tank 10 times, for example 100 gallon tank will weight 1000 pounds ( including water), To this calculation add your rocks total weight. Wash out your tank (and your sump) with water only, using chemicals or soap can poison your tank, same thing with your gravel, be sure to wash it with water only in order to remove dirt, do the same with the rocks, If you have live rocks don’t wash them at all, after wash put gravel and rocks in a bucket, you will need them later on. If you want painting the back glass tank this is the time to do so, blue and black are common paints that give the tank illusion of depth and highlight fish colors, after painting let the tank to sit for 1-2 days to allow the paint to dry. When the aquarium is dry you can place it on the stand, now you should hook up your sump to the main tank. Install your heater, protein skimmer (if he is not external), and other equipment you have in the sump, don’t plug the equipment yet just place it.
Now it will be a good time to fill your tank with reverse osmosis, be patient the process take time, while the tank fills with water you can add the salt wile monitoring water salinity with the hydrometer or refractometer, hook up your wave box in order to mix the salt, after the tank is half full with water (stop water at this point) test your salinity again till you have got specific gravity between 1.020 and 1.024, make sure that all the salt mix have dissolve before you make your last salinity test, let the water “run” for at least 2 days. High quality rocks are essential in order to built prosperous bacteria colony, some use live rocks wile some prefer dry rocks. To my opinion in this type of tank (marine) you can save some money and purchase dry rocks. Now you can add your substance (crushed corals) and then and place your rocks in the tank. Before adding any fish you have to wait your tank to be cycled, this process can take several weeks, in this period of time you need to monitor your aquarium water with your test kits, check your PH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and Carbonate hardness levels, also check your water salinity, this are the parameters that you will need to keep: Temperature: 24-27c (75-85F).Ph- 8- 8.4.Salinity – 1.020-1.024. Ammonia: 0. Nitrite:0. Nitrate- 10 ppm or less. Carbonate hardness: 7-10 DKH.
After your tank has cycled you should pass water to your quarantine tank and operate equipment, when your quarantine ready it is time to purchase your first marine fish, in order to acclimate the fish dump the bag into a clean bucket and then add about 1 cup of aquarium water to the bucket every 10 minutes, continue to add 1 cup of aquarium water to the bucket every 10 minutes, do this acclimation process for an hour at least, then take the fish net and carefully introduce the fish to its new home (quarantine tank), in the first day there is no need to feed the fish, month pass by and it is time to move the fish to the main tank, acclimate the fish carefully for at least half hour. Do the same process with every new fish that you are going to purchase. Now, it is time to lay down and enjoy your fish tank, but never forget if you want your tank to look good as it looks right now you have to work for it by monitor the salinity, temperature and water parameters. Change your tank water one time a month, exchange of 15%-20% will be great, don’t forget to replace media and to clean your protein skimmer as well.
If you will do so, enjoyment guaranteed…..

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – How To Setup A Freshwater Aquarium
This is an 11 step guide to setting up a freshwater aquarium in your home.
Equipment you will need:
Aquarium
Aquarium gravel
Aquarium filter
Replacement filter media
Heater
Other decorations (such as plants)
Chemical test kits
Fish food
Aquarium vacuum
Fish net
Glass Scrubber
5-gallon bucket
Pasta strainer
1: Realize the responsibility involved.
A tropical fish tank is just like having a dog or a cat when it comes to the amount of effort on your part. In order to have a successful fish tank you will have to work at it. Once a week, or at most once every two weeks, you will need to perform some kind of maintenance on the tank. Most of the time you will be performing water changes. You will also have to feed your tropical fish at least once a day. If you are up to the challenge, please proceed!
2: Decide on an aquarium size.
It’s a good idea to have in mind what kind of tropical fish you want to keep before you purchase an aquarium. Some tropical fish only grow to be an inch or two, whereas other types of tropical fish can grow 12 or 13 inches in length! Knowing what kind of tropical fish you want will help you decide the size of the tank they will need. If this is your first time with an aquarium, I would recommend going with a 10 or 20 gallon aquarium for now.
3: Decide on the aquarium’s location.
Place your aquarium in an area where the light and temperature of the tank won’t be affected by external sources such as windows and heater vents. You will want to place your aquarium on a stand that will be able to hold its total weight. A good rule of thumb for determining the total weight of a full aquarium is 10 pounds per gallon of water. For example, a 55-gallon tank will weigh approximately 550 pounds when filled with water!
4: Buy your aquarium and equipment.
Now is the time to decide on the type of filtration you will want to use. You will also need to purchase a heater capable of heating the tank size you have. Buy the gravel, plants, a power strip and other decorations. A good rule of thumb for the amount of gravel that you will need is 1 to 1.5 pounds of gravel per gallon of water.
5: Set up your aquarium and stand.
Wash out your tank with water only! Do not use soap or detergents. Soap residue left behind will be harmful for your tropical fish. If you are going to use an under gravel filter (not recommended) now would be the time to set it up as well.
6: Wash Gravel, plants and decorations.
Be sure to wash the gravel thoroughly before adding it to your tank. An easy way to do this is to put some of the rocks in a pasta strainer and wash them out in your bathtub. Then place the clean gravel in a clean 5-gallon bucket for transport to the aquarium. After adding the gravel you can place your plants and decorations.
7: Add water to the aquarium.
To avoid messing up your gravel and plants, you can place a plate or saucer in the middle of your aquarium and direct the water flow onto the plate. Use room temperature water when filling. To remove the chlorine and chloramine, use something like Tetra AquaSafe for Aquariums. Don’t completely fill up the aquarium until you are sure of the layout of your decorations. Otherwise, when you place your arm in to move stuff around water is going to spill over. Doh!
8: Set up equipment.
Install your heater but don’t plug it in until the thermostat in the heater has adjusted to the water temperature. This usually takes about 15 minutes or so. Hook up your filter and any other equipment you have, then top off the aquarium water to just under the hood lip. Place your hood and light on the aquarium and then check your power cords to be sure that they are free of water. I would also recommend using a drip loop on all of the power cords to be extra cautious. Plug all of the equipment into a power strip and then “turn on” the aquarium.
Wait, wait, wait and then wait some more.
I know, you want to add some tropical fish. But, in order to do this right you must wait until your aquarium has cycled before adding any fish. There are ways of speeding up this process. Check out the nitrogen cycle page to learn more. If you must use fish to cycle, try to get a hardier species like the zebra danio or cherry barb.
Add tropical fish.
Only add one or two fish at a time. Adding a couple tropical fish at a time gives your filtration system the time needed to take on the increased biological load that the new fish introduce. When you bring the fish home let the bag float in the tank for about 15 minutes so that the fish can become acclimated to the temperature and pH of the aquarium water. After 5 minutes of floating the bag you should add some of the aquarium water to the bag so that the fish can become acclimated to the pH level in the aquarium. This will help reduce the amount of stress imposed on the tropical fish. Stressed tropical fish often leads to dead tropical fish! Don’t feed your tropical fish on the first day. They probably wouldn’t eat any food on the first day anyway. Let them get acquainted with their new home.
Get ready for regular maintenance.
Be prepared to spend some time once every week or two to clean your tank. Performing regular water changes will reduce the nitrate levels and keep your tropical fish happy and healthy.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – How to Set-Up Your New Aquarium
When you are planning to install an aquarium in your home the best and the simplest way will be to first buy a fifteen, twenty or if you want a bigger one, then a 29 gallon fish tank made of glass. Along with that particular air-driven gravel filter as well as a plastic tank top. You may also need a heater to maintain the perfect water temperature inside the tank. But if you want to be a little economical at the beginning you can go for an incandescent light instead of a fluorescent. In terms of fish tank accessories if you beginner it will be best for you to choose wood or plastic plants, stone or ceramic decorations which are available in almost any pet shop. When you go out to buy these things you will see that most of the shops have them (except decoration) and also offer you at a reasonable and discounted price. One important item related to your aquarium set up is the stand upon which the tank will remain. You must get a stand which is capable of bearing the weight of your fish tank.
When you have got all the necessary things or setting up your aquarium the process of installing is quite simple. First decide the place where you want to place your aquarium. Place it in such a place where you can enjoy the fish in a relaxing manner. While finalizing the place be careful to see that you are placing it in a place where it will not get much direct sunlight which is essential for controlling algae.
After that, put your tank on the stand and check to see if there is good contact between the fish tank and the stand. Then see what kind of filter you have. If it is an Under Gravel Filter (UGF), then you will have to place it now. It will go to the bottom of the tank. You need to place the lift tubes of the filter in their sockets. You can see the set up instructions written on the that container.
Before putting inside the tank, you need to first rinse your filter thoroughly. Also see that lowest point of the gravel is near the front of the tank.
However, if your filter is not UGF and it goes inside the fish tank, you can now make it ready and place it into the tank. Make sure that you wash everything with cool water before putting inside the tank.
When this task is over, you can move on and add the heater as well as the water pump if you require. First decide a location inside the tank for your pump but remember that you need to place it above the water level. This is required because if you do not do this water can drain back out through the air tube when the power goes off resulting in the damage of the pump along with other things. However, if you find it difficult to place the air pump over the tank water level, you can get yourself some check-valves for the air line. You can also see the instructions which have come with your filter to check how to connect the air line with the air stones. But if your filter is not an UGF you must check to see whether that filter needs an air pump connected or not and also how to attach one. Again, if you are operating your filter with a power head, and not with an air pump, you must place remember to place that power head on top of the lift tube following the instructions on the package. Make SURE that your pumps and. You must do it by reading instructions in the box of your filter.
Now that you are done with the set up of your aquarium you can now concentrate on decorating it. You need to place your decorations inside the tank at this point and check how they are looking. One thing that you must remember is that plastic and ceramic decorations will always entrap air and will float as you put water in the tank. So do not be surprised when it happens to you.
Once you are done with putting your decorations inside the tank, you can w put the top of the fish tank. If you have bought a glass top or an integrated plastic top it is very simple. These are made in such a way that it is easy to cut the back side according to your need in order to make room for power cords, filters, heaters as well as air lines. Just do it with a pair of scissors or a knife
Now you are in a position to add water to your new fish tank. You can directly pour water into it without treating it as you do not have any fish or plant at present. You can add any treatment when the tank is full. For pouring water you can use any bowel or any other thing from your kitchen. When your tank gets filled you should let it remain in that way for an hour or two so that your air stones are saturated. Turn your air pump as well as the water heater. It is always advisable to wait for one or two days before putting any fish inside because in the meantime the inside temperature will stabilize and you can also make sure that there are no leaks in your fish tank.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Freshwater Aquarium Setup Tips
The first step in having thriving, healthy fish in your aquarium begins with your freshwater aquarium setup. There are several items you will need right away, before you purchase your fish. These include the aquarium, aquarium gravel or substrate, filter and replacement filter, fake or live plants, structures for fish to hide in, testing kits for monitoring the aquarium’s nitrogen cycle, heater, light, power strip, aquarium vacuum, food for the fish, and some handy implements, such as a fish net, glass scrubber, and a bucket that will hold around five gallons of water.
What size aquarium should you get?
Hopefully, by the time you are ready to start your freshwater aquarium setup, you have already considered the sizes and types of fish that you would like to keep. Some fish can be tiny–as little as an inch, while others can be thirteen or fourteen inches. Be realistic about the size of the tank you will need. In reality, every fish needs around three to four gallons of water per inch in size. If you want to have large fish or schools of fish you would need a 50 to 100 gallon tank.
If you are a beginner just starting out, try a 10 to 20 gallon tank with small fish. You can always upgrade to a larger tank once you decide if you like having an aquarium and if you have the money to support the hobby. The first decision in freshwater aquarium setup is deciding where to put the tank. You need to have something to place it on which will support its weight when full. Given that every gallon of water weighs five pounds, make sure your table and your floor can both support the weight. A 20-gallon aquarium will weigh 200 pounds full.
Where to place your aquarium
Placing the aquarium in the right spot is also essential. Putting an aquarium in the direct sunlight can make it too warm, and also disrupt the lighting cycle you want to create with your tank’s own lighting. Place your tank in a place where it will get just normal, filtered light from windows. Wash the tank thoroughly before placing anything inside. You can use water and salt but no soap as soap residue can kill fish.
Substrates are not all the same
Next, get your substrate (gravel), plants, and other structures, such as logs or driftwood and wash all of them thoroughly. One way to wash the substrate is to put it in a pasta/vegetable strainer and run water through it. You can choose from three sizes of substrate: small stones and pebbles, medium-sized stones and pebbles, or large rocks which can cover much of the bottom of the tank. The best choice is in the middle–medium-sized rocks and pebbles. No matter what the substrate is, everyone will refer to it as gravel. Some kinds of substrate can affect the pH of the water. Stay away from slate, shells, onyx, lava rock, geodes, quartz, dolomite, limestone, and other similar substances.
Aquarium fill-up
Put your clean substrate in the aquarium and then the heater, plants and other structures. Wash all of them off so no diseases can be transferred once the fish have been placed in the tank. Next, freshwater aquarium setup is going to mean filling the tank with water. Try to use distilled water that has been sitting at room temperature. If you have to use tap water and you have a city or town water supply, you will have to add an aquarium chlorine remover every time before you can add new water to the tank. Put the heater in the tank, let it adjust to the water temperature before turning it on (15 minutes), and then install the tank light and hood.
Patience is a virtue.
Plug everything in and turn it on. And then be very patient. The aquarium has to go through a nitrogen cycle, which can take as long as six weeks. Then you need to test the pH level, ammonia level, nitrate and nitrite levels. If all are within range (check the test kit instructions for levels), you can start adding fish to the tank two at a time.
Remember, your aquarium may well be a lifetime hobby, so waiting a little more time during the initial freshwater aquarium setup is really a good thing, because it will lead to healthy fish. You will need to continue to test your water for these various chemicals forever so that both your fish and plants thrive. Patience will bring many rewards, particularly when you consider how much enjoyment you will have watching your fish.

Coldwater Aquarium Set-up and Care

Coldwater Aquarium Set-up and Care
As the hobby of having an aquarium becomes more and more popular, it should be noted that the easiest aquarium to care for and set up is a coldwater tank. As the name suggests, coldwater tanks require no heating set up. This cuts costs when setting up your first tank. It also makes the aquarium much easier to maintain in the long run. Keep in mind that only certain coldwater fish can survive in a tank without heat. Most common are goldfish and guppies, but there are a multitude available and you will be able to have an array of fish living in your coldwater tank.
The supplies you will need to set up your aquarium may seem lengthy, but it is actually a much shorter and cheaper list than that of a heated freshwater tank or a saltwater tank. Obviously the first thing you need is a tank. It’s all about personal choice here as they come in many sizes and shapes. When you purchase the tank, a kit often comes with it and includes some of the other things you may need. Just to make sure, check that you have a filter and an air pump. These are the most important pieces to the whole set up. If you are buying your tank as a kit, make sure it is specified to be a coldwater set-up. You will notice that no heater will be included.
After the purchase of your tank, you can now consider how you wish to decorate it. Many types of gravel and sand are available in a lot of colors. You can add accent plants as well to make it appear more natural. Many people add little figures or signs to personalize their aquariums. It’s all up to you in regards to décor. Be sure to buy a net, an algae scraper and conditioner for the water.
If you choose to have a tank with lighting, that is ok, just be aware of the problems it may cause. By adding light to the tank, you are also adding heat. Algae thrives on heat. Though a light won’t harm your tank, it may add to algae growth. This is not uncommon and is easily cleaned. Your fish will enjoy having the light, so it is probably best to buy a hood that includes a light. Try to keep the tank out of direct sunlight when you choose it’s position within your home. This will also add to algae growth.
Once you have your tank set up and the water is stabilized, you may add your fish. Be sure to only buy coldwater fish to add to this tank. If you are unsure of what types of fish are coldwater, ask for help at a pet store. They will offer you some extra tips on the types of fish you are purchasing as well. Once your fish are added, you will have a wonderful underwater scene to enjoy for years to come. It is important to clean and care for your tank on a routine basis. A complete cleaning of the tank should be done every 2 months, including a water change, scraping algae, rinsing the gravel of waste and changing filters.
You will find that as time passes, you will form a routing of caring for your coldwater aquarium. It is worth the effort to maintain the tank, as you will be rewarded with a wonderful addition to your home.
