Simple set up guide for tropical fish tanks

How to set up those tropical fish tanks? Im gonna provide u simple guide.
Shopping list:
tank
special mat to put under the tank ( so it won’t move)
lightning equipped cover
filter
sand or gravel
some plants for start
optional:
Heater (if u want to keep fishes or plants that like higher temps)
Solid case designed for aquariums (if u don’t have something solid to place it already)
decorations like : rocks, caves, stones, roots
Fish tank set up guide:
Put the mat on a solid case then u can place the tank on it. Put the cover on top.
Make sure that u place a tank far from window, so that sun light wont operate on it.
Install the filter as it says in the manual double check if you done it right.
Then start placing gravel. On the back of your tank there should be 24-28 inches (8-9cm) and then sliding towards the front where you should have something like 16 inches ( 4cm) of it.
You may want to put some decorations inside like stones, roots or caves but don’t be silly buying any divers or boats.
Then pour gently water till you reach like 9-15 inches (3-5cm) so you can start planting.
Then you can fill the rest of the tank with water, launch your filter + lightning.
You should now wait for about 2-3 weeks in this time your new aquarium will maturate, after that you can go on and buy fish.

1. Enhance the natural setting of your aquarium
Live plants add oxygen to the water of the tank and keep it in a balanced condition while aiding the health of the fish. Not only are live plants beneficial to the fish they also add to the beauty of the tank and make it look more natural.
2. Lighting important for live plants
To maintain live plants in the aquarium you must ensure the correct kind of lighting. To have healthy plants in your aquarium you should have about 3 watts of light per gallon of water. Fluorescent lights are nice for tanks and give a good pleasing effect. One thing you have to be careful of with fluorescent lights is that plants that have leaves at different levels will not get sufficient light at some point.
3. Maintenance of live plants
After deciding on the kind of lighting you want for your aquarium, you should pay heed to the hardness of the water. Most plants need a hardness level of 4 to 12 dH and 6.5 to &.2 pH for the water. Apart from this plants need clear and clean water so you should ensure that the water is always maintained clean in the aquarium. Plants do not keep healthy if there is too much debris in the water, so cleaning of the tank is a very essential job.
After you have ensured the condition of the water for the plants, you should maintain their nutrients for healthy growth. Both macro and micro nutrients are required by plants. Macro nutrients are present in the water and need never be added on, while micro nutrients are needed in small quantities. The micro nutrients that plants need in the water are zinc, iron and copper.
However, the fish in the water generally supply all the nutrients that are needed for the healthy growth of aquatic plants. So you do not have to add on any supplements at all for the nutrition of the plants. Avoid filtration systems that are put under the gravel as they disturb the surface with the steady flow of the bubbles. Most other filtration systems are fine. Too much disturbance by filtration systems causes the carbon dioxide to be lost and this is not good for the plants. The filter should keep the nutrients flowing through the water with the current that it creates.
With a good chemical balance and a properly functioning filter system in the tank, the plants in your tank will be healthy and with good growth. Not only will the healthy plants give a good look to your aquarium, the fish will also remain happy with this natural environment that you have created for them.

Before you add the water, there are a few simple rules to follow. The bottom of the tank is where you pour the sand first, then followed by the addition of dechlorinated water. Salt needs to be mixed in next, until it reaches a specific gravity measuring 1.205. Decide where you want to arrange your live rock after the water and salt, then install the heater and finally, the hood of the tank. You should then wait approximately 4 weeks for the tank to settle before going ahead with the next move.
Once the 4 weeks is over, it is time to add the first living creatures to your tank. This will ensure that the water is tested for the correct salt balance and stays that way, before you add your fish. During this period, snails and crabs if you have chosen them, can be added. The tank should now be functioning as though you have already filled it with fish, so install a protein skimmer. Check to see that you have the correct lighting and that the filters are doing their job. The light should not be left on for any longer than 10 or 12 hours a day, as this can promote the growth of algae. Once snails or crabs have been added, you should wait 2 more weeks.
You have now reached Week 6, which is when you can proceed with the next stage of adding your first pieces of coral. For saltwater aquariums you will find different types of coral including the common ones like Bullseye Mushroom coral, Button Polyp, Hairy Mushroom Coral and the Yellow Polyp. The coral should be attached to live rock at the bottom of the tank when you add it. You can wait another 2 weeks – all the patience is worth it. It is now the 10th week when you can add Aquacultured Coral with types named Pumping Xenia, Spaghetti Finger Leather Coral and Starburst Polyps as part of your collection of many. Again these should be placed on live rock as with the first set of coral.
Your reef aquarium has now been successfully set up and by the 10 to 12 week period, you will be ready to begin adding your choice of fish to your created underwater world. The process of setting up your coral aquarium is a long and drawn out, but one well worth if for the long years ahead. Your own spectacularly created coral aquarium will give you years of enjoyment as you care for it and your living creatures. The aquarium will be something to be admired and very relaxing in your home. Watch how your family and friends are impressed by your creation!

If you have finally decided to take the plunge and own an aquarium there are certain things you should do before plucking down any of your money. First, make a list of everything you want and the type of fish you want to own. You can do this by browsing the Internet and seeing what is available. You can also go to a pet shop and check the selection. Once you have decided on what kind of fish you want, do some research to make sure you aren’t buying fish that like to eat each other. You also need fish that enjoy the same type of environment (water and pH level). When exploring different options you will find freshwater fish are better to sustain than saltwater. Freshwater fish are hardy and handle changes in water conditions better.
As a beginner, you might think tropical saltwater fish are pretty and these are the fish you want. Let’s consider the basics of fish first and see why freshwater fish are better for beginners. A fish needs water to live. We all know this. Freshwater fish absorbs water through its body. However, saltwater fish have to drink it because the body’s fluids leave the skin by osmosis. Salt is excreted through the skin in the form of urine.
Freshwater fish also have a large range when it comes to water temperature sometimes up to ten degrees. Many saltwater fish have little room for error. They tend to need temperatures that can only fluctuate two to five degrees.
If you are just starting out, maintaining the right water level is going to be hard. Just be patient and keep at it. Eventually you will figure out the tricks to keep the water regulated. If the freshwater fish do happen to pass while under you care, don’t take this is a failure. They are sensitive creatures and you are going to learn more about balancing the water. Speak to pet shop employees or go online to get extra tips to maintain the proper water conditions.
When you first get the freshwater aquarium, set it up and let it run for at least 24 hours before adding any fish. This is the time to regulate the water and get it under the right conditions. During this period, set up the filter and any plant life you want in the tank. (Live plants are a great way to reduce ammonia). Check the ammonia and nitrate levels. When you do finally add fish to the tank, start small. Only put three to four fish. You want to wait about a month before you put anymore in for a couple of reason. First, you want the fish to get used the environment because with too many the fish might get stressed. Second, there is an incubation time with diseases. You want to ensure the fish are healthy before contaminating others. Monitor the temperature, pH, ammonia and nitrate levels.
Feeding freshwater fish is relatively easy. You only need to feed them twice a day. However, be careful of overfeeding. This is a common rookie mistake. Put small amounts of food in the tank. These should be gobbled up within five minutes. Any extra food, scoop out because it will cause debris in the tank and possibly add toxins to the water.
When it comes to the filter, you want to follow the manufacturer’s specs on replacing it. The filter is important because it keeps the water clean for the fish. Without a good, clean filter the fish won’t thrive.

This is a 55 gallon saltwater setup. I netted these fish myself. The waters of the Florida Keys provide plentiful tropical fish of all sorts. This tank currently has 1 Four-Eye Butterflyfish, 1 juvenile Spotfin Butterflyfish, 1 Dusky Damselfish, and 1 High-Hat Fish. There are also 30 Lettuce Nudibranchs. The tank is powered by 3 Penguin 1140 powerheads, a Whisper 60 series, and a JBJ EU 45 Canister filter with an integrated UV Sterilizer.

1. Know Your Fish: the care of your fish is determined largely by what type of fish they are i.e saltwater or freshwater. The first kind is also referred to as marine fish. The kind of water-home you provide for your fish friends depends on the category they fall under as saltwater fish need to be looked in at daily to check for their good health in an alien environment and this is why experts recommend fish-owners to observe the patterns of behavior of every fish in the tank so anything out of the ordinary can be recorded and attended to by a pet specialist.
2. Learn about the eating pattern of your fish to fix a daily routine for them as some fish may require frequent meals while others can do with just one meal daily; it is important to understand and interpret the eating demands of your fish.
3. Try and keep the aquarium water clean as neglecting this aspect may cause chlorine build-up in the tank, leading to unhygienic conditions for the fish in it. You can invest in some affordable water-filters to maintain aquarium water and find out about adding calcium in it besides adding iodine salt twice weekly for marine fish kept in a tank. Clearing the aquarium of algae buildup that contain photosynthetic substances is essential too for the healthy upkeep of your fish.
4. Another tip for maintaining tank water of the best quality is to filter out at least 15 per cent of it contained in the tank on a weekly basis and refill this quantity with pure, oxygenated water to prevent build-up of chemicals that can be harmful for the fish. Don’t hesitate to seek advice from the local pet shop on the ways to eliminate chemical build-up in your tank water and the type of filteration system you can use to benefit your fishy friends.
5. Always work to remove debris such as gravel etc. from the tank before attempting to clean and change the water. Check for any impurities such as ammonia content etc. in the aquarium water by investing in a tester kit and buffer system easily available in the market and use this every 2 weeks to spot harmful levels of other chemicals, such as copper, chlorine and nitrate build-up etc. and to check the pH level of the tank water. However, do remember that fish tend to produce their own level of nitrites, which are not harmful for them and only concentrate on removing the nitrous acidy salts that can be toxic for them. When doing these weekly tests, add in the useful alkalinity build up test on a monthly basis also to judge the concentration of it in terms with the pH level of the tank water.
6. Investing in a good quality chemical, mechanical or biological filter that your local pet shop can guide you about is a smart way to prevent fish from falling ill when kept in an aquarium environment and checking to see these are working properly is also important as a bi-weekly filter-check can tell you when a replacement is due.

In my opinion probably the most beautiful fish you are able to keep is the Discus fish. Now I know many people might say some type of saltwater fish, however it is not the point. In a number of situations costing in the hundreds of dollars range id say their elegance has a price. Yeah I understand it sounds crazy and I would in no way pay or propose someone pay this type of price for any discus. However where I’m from in Michigan you may expect to pay around 45 bucks for a juvenile and as much as a hundred dollars for a full sized adult.

Discus Fish Breeding – Setting Up
Caring for discus is the first fun part of the hobby. Discus fish breeding is taking your discus keeping to a higher level and a popular technique to save money on your expensive fish. You’re possibly thinking it’s too difficult to breed your fish. In fact it’s much easier than it sounds. Due to the lofty cost of the fish breeding discus fish is becoming particularly popular among hobbyist during these current times. In a number of cases the discus will even breed without any special care providing you with a nice surprise in several weeks.
Discus Fish Breeding – Let’s get it Started in Here
With discus fish breeding there are some ways for getting set up. When you’re starting a new discus fish aquarium you will have two methods. First the easy and simple choice. To consider the easy method talk to your vendor and let them know you wish to purchase a mating couple. Big time discus keepers like this option because it is a easy and simple way to go. Additionally it is the most costly choice of the two as well. Mating pairs can cost between 200 or 300 bucks a couple.
The next option is to purchase a group of around six juvenile fish. When using this system it isn’t one hundred percent certain however it usually is successful in most cases. I have used this method a lot and it has not let me down yet.
Discus Fish Breeding- Finding the Parents
With some time, in your main tank you will start to notice who the mating pair will be. How you ask. You will notice two fish begin to defend what they consider their territory from all the other fish. Watch this behavior for a couple of days. When it keeps up they will be mom and dad.

Fill the breeding tank with water from the main tank therefore the ph factors will remain stable. The breeding tank shall have a clear bottom. Please do not put in any rocks or gravel substrate. There is reason in doing this step. You need to make it as easy as possible to get rid of leftover food and debris. The only decor you want in the tank is a vertical spawning surface. “Angel fish and discus fish lay their eggs in the same manor. Both discus and angel fish will lay their eggs on a vertical surface. There are many types of vertical surfaces you may use. In my case I use an upside down ceramic pot or some type of plant like a Java fern. When you so desire you can still put a potted plant inside the tank to give the fish some shelter. All though this isn’t necessary, remember this tip if your fish feel stressed.
An important tip with filtration. I prefer to use a tiny power filter in addition to a sponge filter. I use the power filter with a bag of peat moss, this method keeps the ph level in check.
SMALL IMPORTANT BREEDING TANK SECRET
It is essential you remember your breeding tank is normally much smaller than your main fish tank. Due to the fact the breeding tank is smaller you will have to watch it very closely for ammonia spikes and water temperature. Check the water every day and clean the waste from it every day.
